Having worked with lots of small businesses, we know that time, budget, and headspace are often in short supply. That’s why we like to be upfront about pricing from the start—so you can quickly see whether working together is going to be a good fit. No awkward surprises, no wasted time, just clear, honest info so you can make confident decisions.
We mainly work in the role of a freelance marketing manager, acting as an extension of your team to provide consistent, strategic support across your marketing activity. But we occasionally take on large standalone projects, whether that’s launching a new product, refreshing your website content, or developing a targeted campaign.
This flexible setup means you get senior-level expertise without the overhead of a full-time hire, and we can slot in where you need me most, whether that’s ongoing marketing leadership or more short-term focused delivery.
Our 'rate card' day rate is £400, but we offer discounts for retained clients. Basically, the more time you buy from Herkess, the cheaper the day rate becomes.
Our services on a retained basis start from £1,000 for 2.5 days of activity. If we're trying to work with less time than that, it's tough to make enough of a tangible difference, which can leave both parties frustrated.
For companies that have never used a fractional marketing manager before, it can be difficult to appreciate what their money is going to pay for in terms of actual outputs. So, the following is an example of the outputs that could be delivered for a £1000 monthly fee – NB: this obviously depends on the complexity and type of the work required.
Competitor research
1 blog post (for SEO purposes)
1 existing page optimised (for SEO purposes)
4 image/text social media posts (for brand profile raising and SEO)
1 short press release written OR distributed (for brand profile raising and SEO)
1 Google business profile update (for local SEO)
And we’ll say it again, the above very much depends on the complexity and type of the work required and is meant to act as a guideline, not a prescribed list of monthly activity.
Some businesses can take their time making payments. Unfortunately, our mortgage providers don’t offer us the same flexibility, so for retainer agreements, we ask for 50% of the first month’s fee at the start, and the remaining 50% at the end of that month. From month two onwards, the retainer switches to a single monthly payment, due at the end of each month.
For short projects, Herkess charges a 50% deposit upfront, with the remaining 50% due on completion.
For longer projects, we break the project into phases, with the first payment split into two (50% before I start work and 50% when the first phase is complete) and payments then due at the end of each phase.
We charge a late payment fee of 5% on invoices not paid within 7 days of the due date. It’s all part of making sure Herkess can keep delivering great work without chasing payments.
